Foward: Since watching Return of the Jedi, I've always loved the powerful voice of Jabba the Hutt speaking in the awesome Huttese language. This file is the result of my love for the language, in this "dictionary" are (arranged in alphabetical order) all the english (basic) words with Huttese translations I know of. I don't know how much of use this file can be to anyone, but nevertheless I hope it'll be enjoyed. You are most likely reading the plain text version, but I encourage you to hunt down the graphic versions, which utilize pictures, icons and sound effects. - Quest32681 ***************************************************** QUESTER'S NEW ENGLISH/HUTTESE DICTIONARY ***************************************************** ------------------------------------------------------------- This file is dedicated to Ben Burtt, who without, Star Wars (let alone Huttese) would never be the same. ------------------------------------------------------------- About: The Huttese Language has had many changes to it over time, while there are many types of dialect that use different words with the same meaning, this dictionary uses standard Huttese. However, there are some exceptions, some words have been derived from the servant language, which uses alternate words for others to show their state of non-authority, the words come in use especially on visits to Nal Hutta, the Huttese homeworld. Words from this servant dialect have been noted as being so. The typical Huttese speak occassionally will use basic words within the Huttese words, the primary reason this is so is because some words have never had a Huttese translation. It is also well known that most names of people, organizations, and animals are usually spoken in basic during a Huttese sentence as well.(example: Solo, Jedi, Bantha, Wookiee, Duros, Skywalker, etc.) All words have been placed in alphabetical order by basic translations. A phrases section follows the main dictionary body. ============================================================= all- gay allowed- be and- chona appreciate- con-yon-y ask- Kah at- chee away- choo bargain- bongo-wan-chee-coth-bah be- tee been- gawg-bah best- beast bounty hunter- soy-yah-y-goy boy- yee bring- Coos (Casual), yan chonce (In Anger/ Emphasis) but- we come- Con-tee-chah decoration- de-cord-oid die- chu don't- tee-man down- eitha droid- droid enjoy- weesh Favorite- Doo-chung Fodder- Poo-doo fool- fcool for- Yoon friend- Bie-ease fearless- You-bong giving- Tong have- pee-chah (Standard), ree-sah (Servant/Insult) he- chi him- jony (shawn-e) his- key-joong I- y I'm- Mah-nah-mah-toe in- yuma Intention- juan-chee-coth-bah into- lah inventive- leeth-bah is- gratoog (Standard), yahh (Servant), too (Servant, alternate dialect) It's- Agh kind- konky last- shah late- Aboog life- lye like- thonk luck- high master- lordcha may- keeng me- nage (Casual), sah (Anger/Emphasis) mercanary- Coba white bah mighty- wonky mind- coon minded- viyahs move- Zah must- mot (Standard), must (Servant) my- Nee (Standard), bah (Servant) no- bah not- poon now- now on- nee one- um our- core-bor-racko out- Nek outrage- gabah-lah plus- una posistion- zay powers- tachah press- nah present- pace price- Chu put- puce rewarded- rewar-dah (Servant) scum- goo serve- searchah (Servant) shall- ty-yah sit- Dah sleep- seat smuggler- kah cha tah speak- inko y stray- tune suffer- mon sure- tah Take- yahd(Standard), talka (Servant) tell- Cone-Een tong that- Eeg the- bog-rah they- goodoo this- kah-s to- ah too- Shawk up- Nong using- tur-ung wait!- bah-too watching- shah-shan weak- jah welcome- you-bong where- bunk-ay will- cah (Standard), to (Servant) work-un working- Lapti you- tah (Standard), yo (Servant), Coo (Casual/Emphasis) young- oong you're- come (Standard), tah-come (Emphasis), yah (Servant) ============================================================= Phrase Words: The Huttese language also uses words for a group of words, but the Hutt species prefers these words not to be known to those outside the Hutt species. Using Holo-Image data gathered over the generations, only two have been found in the New Republic Galactic Information Archive & Retrieval System(NRGI A&R) databanks. Current Protocol droid models that can translate these phrases are unfortunately of no use, since the program stipulation is that they can translate, but not reveal, the exact phrase words meanings. As more of these phrases are discovered, they will be promptly added to the next available version of this file. The first of the two phrases combines the words "for" & "the" to the Huttese word "Cow-ah". The second of the two phrases combines the words "no" & "more" to the Huttese word "Tah-tee" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Closing Notes: I would like to thank: This document may not be used in whole or part anywhere else without given permission by myself (QUEST32681@aol.com). All word pronounciations and translations are my interpretation based on the Huttese language spoken in "Return of the Jedi" (Lucasfilm Ltd./ 20th Century Fox, 1981) created by Ben Burtt, the "Return of the Jedi" original novelization (written by James Kahn, based on the screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and George Lucas, Del-Rey books, 1983), "Lapti Nek" (Written by: ???, performed by: ???, as heard in "Return of the Jedi", 1981), "From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga" (CBS/FOX Video, 1983). Any errors of translation are mine alone. I welcome an "official" version by anyone at Lucasfilm, Skywalker Sound, or what have you. Have any QUESTions?, Comments?, Suggestions?, Additions?
